The Right Wing since the American Revolution

Digby has a fascinating, long post about the history of the South's hegemony over the north from the American Revolution through the Civil War. It is mostly a summary of a speech by the historian Stephen Starr. There are obvious parallels with the South's power during the last 40 years, but the most striking parallels are the combination of racism, being in power, and whining over how opressed one is. It would be interesting to have other input about how correct the history is.
